Kansas City Youth Jazz brings in world renowned jazz legend Clark Terry for two Concerts on Sunday, May 4th.
Trumpeter Terry was born in St. Louis in 1920. He was a pioneer of the flugelhorn in jazz. As a devoted educator
he has received 16 Ho-norary Doctorates. Clark has played for 7 presidents and carried his talents around the world
as a US State Department Jazz Ambassa-dor. A NEA Jazz Master, and winner of a Grammy Award, along with
3 Grammy Nominations, he was inducted into the National Endow-ment of the Arts Jazz Hall of Fame in 1991.
He has played in Car-negie Hall and Lincoln Center and has played with all of the greats both live and on some 300 recordings.

    On Saturday, May 3rd, Terry will be holding a Special Clinic for all of the Kansas City Youth Jazz students and conducting
Rehearsals for the Sunday Concerts.
    All of the KCYJ students will perform their 7th Annual Spring Con-cert at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 4th with Clark Terry.
Following the Concert there will be a Panel Discussion with Clark Terry, Leon Brady, Executive Director of KCYJ and Bobby Watson,
Director of Jazz Studies at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. This Concert is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
All metro-wide middle and high school youth are encouraged to attend. Call 913-428-2241 for Complimentary Tickets.
At 7:00, Sunday, May 4th, KCYJ presents Clark Terry and the KC Jazz Masters Concert featuring Leon Brady, Clarence Smith,
Greg Richter, Ron Stinson, Jason Goudeau, Jill Atherton and Adam Kabak. Special Guests include Bobby Watson,
Angela Hagenbach and the McFadden Brothers. Honorary Chairs are internationally traveled vo-calist Marilyn Maye and
Judge Jon R. Ray, retired.
    The Sunday Concerts are being held at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th Street, Kansas City, MO.

Special guest is Bruce Kulick (KISS, Grand Funk Railroad and ESP). Bruce is best known as lead guitarist for KISS from 1984 to 1996. Bruce recently appeared on Paul Stanley's solo record Live To Win, playing bass. Bruce also takes part any many projects with the Eric Singer Project. He will do a Q/A and be available for photos and autographs throughout the day.

Dressed To Kill is a KISS tribute band from Tulsa, Oklahoma which tours the central US. Performing in Alive! era costumes. Dressed To Kill prides itself on delivering believable characters, stage presence and all the signature special effects and authentic music of a mid-70's KISS concert. Dressed To Kill will be performing a set of the best KISS Klassics!

Children 12 and under get in free! KISS merchandise and collectibles will be on sale throughout the day. There will be giveaways and contests too.

Aaron Barnhart Presents: Women's Murder Club

The Kansas City Star television critic Aaron Barnhart hosts two conversations with local women who have built successful careers in television.

Aaron Barnhart, television critic for The Kansas City Star, hosts a conversation with Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain on Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
Craft and Fain, Kansas City natives and graduates of Pembroke Hill High School , are the creators and lead writers of Women's Murder Club, an ABC-TV series based on the James Patterson novels by the same name. They were previously writers and co-producers for The Shield and coauthored young adult novels, the latest of which is Footfree and Fancyloose, scheduled for release in April.
Video clips from television series Craft and Fain have written for will be shown.
Barnhart will interview Craft and Fain about their road from Kansas City to Hollywood , their experience writing for The Shield and what it was like adapting the work of one of America 's most popular mystery writers into a television series.

Kansas City Jazz Orchestra presents “Herd Again”

The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Jim Mair, concludes its 2007 – 2008 Concert Season with “Herd Again” – a tribute to the great Woody Herman’s Orchestras. Often referred to as the “Herds”, Herman’s orchestras were some of the most progressive big bands in jazz.
Herman never shied away from the latest jazz trends as will be evidenced by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra’s renditions of such favorites from Herman’s repertoire as Apple Honey, Early Autumn, Four Brothers, Fanfare for the Common Man, Woodpecker’s Ball and many more. Joining the orchestra with several vocal pieces is Kathlene Holeman, one of the premier jazz vocalists on the Kansas City jazz scene.

13th Annual Jazz/Blues Benefit

Kansas City’s Brew Jam Celebrates 14 Years

KANSAS CITY – On any given Sunday evening for the last 14 years, all the seats are taken at Kansas City’s first brew pub. The beer is good. The food is good, but they come for the band. On the three day weekends, they come a little early or they will be part of the standing room overflow. It’s The Brew Jam.

President’s Day weekend is always the anniversary CD release. This year, February 17 is the Sunday night that The Brew Jam crosses into year 15.

The band is modeled after the MTV Unplugged series. The acoustic guitars and hand percussion add to the familiar songs played in unusual ways. The jams feature multiple vocals, long solos and often morph into other tunes.

The fans come from all over. Brew Jam CDs have found their way around the globe. Sundays always have out-of-towners mixed in with the suburbanites. The 75^th Street Brewery is happy to welcome them to Waldo with hand-crafted beer.

“We all play in other bands through the week,” said Mark Valentine. “It’s fun to sit down without a set list and surprise each other with an odd song or a different feel. The place is always full, so I guess the crowd gets that freshness, too.”

I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT. NOW CHANGE

For all those who have ever dared to love and found out just how complicated, frustrating, and downright comical love can actually be, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" is the perfect musical comedy.

"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" began as an off-Broadway musical revue that rocketed to popularity when its un-apologizing and humorous look at modern relationships struck a chord with audiences. The show is a great mix of comedy, reality, and memorable music. Thin Air Theatrics' production will be directed by Steven Eubank, with Daniel Doss serving as musical director and producer.

Andrea Boswell-Burns, Shea Coffman, Danielle Gibbs, and Bradley Thomas star in the show. This cast of four will play a variety of different characters, each time in a different male-female relationship.

"I love the different styles of music and the journey thr! ough time we experience as an audience through many different characters in the show," Doss said. "At the end of the performance you can feel fulfilled and reminded what love can be."

When asked why he likes the show, Eubank responded, "I'm a gay man - it's a straight show. But its universal matters-of-the-heart are all about human connection (thankfully romantic) and our ability to laugh at our triumphs and failures in love."
